PHARMACEUTICS

Department of Pharmaceutics deals with study of various Pharmaceutical Dosage forms and their Methods of Formulation, Storage Conditions and Stability etc., It also includes the study of technology based instruments and equipments involved in the formulation of various Pharmaceutical dosage forms with its working principle and construction.

PHARMACEUTICAL CHEMISTRY

Pharmaceutical chemistry is one among the department of Pharmaceutical sciences dealing with chemistry and analytical concepts. This branch also emphasizes new lead molecule synthesis, characterization and their pharmaceutical uses.

Fields of Research
  • To synthesis various New Lead Molecules
  • Isolation of final pure lead entities by column, chromatography
  • To develop Newer Analytical Techniques for recently marketed formulations
  • Screening of synthesized lead molecules for their Pharmaceutical and Biological activities
  • Characterization of synthesized compounds by instrumentation like FT-IR, FT-NMR etc.,

PHARMACOLOGY

Pharmacology deals with the study of various actions of drug in the human body (Pharmacodynamics) and the ADME (Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism and Elimination) pattern of drug in the body (Pharmacokinetics).

Fields of Research
  • Structural Elucidation of the isolated compounds
  • Screening of the isolated compounds for its pharmacological activities
  • Structure Activity Relationship (S.A.R.) of chemical moieties

PHARMACOGNOSY

Pharmacognosy is an applied science deals with Biological, Biochemical, Therapeutic and Economic features of Natural drug and their constituents obtained from Plant, Animal, Mineral and Marine sources.

Fields of Research
  • Pharmacognostical studies of Medicinal plants
  • Isolation of Phytoconstituents from Herbal drugs
  • Isolation of Volatile oil from Medicinal Plants
  • Screening of Herbal drugs for various ailments like diabetes, ulcer, cancer, jaundice etc.,
  • Anti-microbial screening of Herbal drugs
  • Formulation of Herbal drugs
  • Standardization of Herbal drugs

RESEARCH COLLABORATIONS

The institute is actively involving in collaboration programmes with various premier Institutions/ Universities in India and abroad like Katholeike University, Belgium, Defence Research and Development Organization Defence Research Development Organization (DRDO), Indian Council of Forestry and Research Education (ICFRE) etc., and sharing its scientific and technological experience with them.

GRANTS RECEIVED

Several grants were received from major funding agencies like All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi, Tamil Nadu Pharmaceutical Sciences Welfare Trust (TNPSWT) and Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology (TNSCST) by our staff and students to carry out their research works.

Entrepreneurship and Management Development Cell

The All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi, has granted Rs.3 lakh as non-recurring and Rs.1 lakh as recurring expenditure for establishing an EMD Cell in our college. The coordinator of the cell is Dr.K.Ruckmani M.Pharm., Ph.D., Professor and Principal, and the co-coordinator of the cell is Prof. T.N.K. Suriyaprakash M.Pharm.

Objectives of proposed centre
  1. To create an environment for self-employment and entrepreneurship development through various programmes. 2. To introduce the concept of entrepreneurship in curricula at diploma levels. 3. To develop management personnel at appropriate levels for the non-corporate and unorganised sectors like education, rural development, small-scale industry etc. 4. To promote employment opportunities and inculcate entrepreneurship in the minds of the students
